Why Productiv shut down

On 2 August 2026, Productiv told its customers that the platform would close on the 6th. Access was cut off on the 5th. The closing notice on its website says every production system, data store and backup has been permanently destroyed, and that no customer data has been kept. So, three days to pull out years of inventory and usage history.

The liquidation started in June

On 25 June 2026, Productiv, Inc. made a General Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors. Its assets went to a company called PFS Productiv Liquidation LLC, which says it intends to liquidate them and wind the business down. Creditors have until 22 December 2026 to file a claim. Stretto administers the case and anyone can read it. An assignment for the benefit of creditors is California's alternative to filing Chapter 7. A company that can't pay what it owes hands its assets to an assignee, who sells them and pays creditors in order of priority. It winds the company up.

Funding didn't keep it alive

Productiv raised around $73 million. The last round was $45 million in March 2021, led by IVP, with Accel, Norwest Venture Partners, Okta Ventures and Atlassian Ventures also in. A funding round only tells you what a group of investors believed five years ago.

Usage history is the part you can't rebuild

Most of what a SaaS management platform holds can be put back together. Connect your identity provider and your accounting system to something new and the app list returns within days. Renewal dates are sitting in your contracts, costs are in your invoices, and whoever owned each app is usually in someone's spreadsheet anyway. Usage history is the exception. Nobody else keeps a record of which of your 400 people opened Figma in March 2025. Most products only expose a short window of activity through their APIs. Microsoft Exchange only looks back about two weeks. So a new platform starts counting from the day you connect it. You spend a week rebuilding the inventory, then several months waiting before your inactivity numbers are solid enough to take a licence off someone.

If you were a Productiv customer

The useful thing to do this month is get something watching your licences again, so that by your next renewal you've built up enough history to argue with. If you want a hand with that, talk to us. We'll give you an account and walk you through connecting your integrations, then send back a licence health report: who holds every licence, which ones are sitting unused, and what you'd save by removing them. That takes about a week once the first integration is connected.

Common questions

Productiv never gave a reason in its announcement. The public record shows that on 25 June 2026 the company made a General Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors, a California liquidation process, handing its assets to PFS Productiv Liquidation LLC to sell off and distribute to creditors.

Productiv announced the shutdown on 2 August 2026 and closed the platform on 6 August 2026. Customer access was cut off on 5 August 2026.

It's gone. Productiv's closing notice says all production systems, data stores and backups have been permanently and securely destroyed, and that no customer data has been retained. If you exported before 5 August, that export is the only copy you have.

The deadline to file a claim in the assignment is 22 December 2026. Claims are administered by Stretto, and the case page has both the online form and the postal address.
